Having worked in-house and as a consultant, Emma appreciates the need for practical solutions to communication challenges. She is a highly skilled operator with specialist experience in (and passion for) issues and crisis communication, employee communication, project management, brand management, and stakeholder engagement.

I am driven to make a positive difference in people’s lives through words and actions.

As her former colleagues and clients attest, Emma is skilled at building relationships and a master at leveraging them for greater effectiveness. She has a high level of empathy and it is a superpower for engaging with others.

Emma joined Rowland in 2020, having spent more than 10 years providing quality communication advice and support to leaders and teams in one of the world’s largest mining and resources companies.

While in this role, Emma’s responsibilities often included managing the sharing of highly sensitive and technical information, developing communication frameworks, strategies and tools, and mapping issues response processes.

She also regularly worked with subject matter experts to help communicate complex information to multiple stakeholder groups, including geographically dispersed workforces.

Using scenario planning, Emma also worked with executives from across the business to prepare for potential crisis situations.

In her first Rowland assignment, Emma was seconded to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General where she played a key role in preparing a Pandemic Event Management Procedure, enabling a proactive, planned response to potential air borne viruses, such as the Coronavirus.

Emma was also seconded to Brisbane Catholic Education, where her most recent assignment with them included providing strategic and practical communications and engagement advice and support to their executive team and school leaders as one of their 146 schools transitioned to closure — unwelcomed by the community — by the end of 2024.

Committed to delivering over and above client expectations, Emma is a mature professional who is calm under pressure and adept at working with both executive and technical leaders, and workforces. She is an enthusiastic and creative individual who brings genuine energy and a practical approach to navigating challenging environments.
