Leading the way in accessibility design

NIISQ recognised that its existing website failed a number of accessibility standards and included convoluted information hierarchy and user flows.

Critical to the site’s development is the ability for all users, many of whom have significant cognitive and physical limitations, to access, understand and interact with multiple information types.

Rowland created user personas to better define the different audiences and NIISQ service providers. A dedicated workshop was held to understand user journeys of audience members with very specific needs. Through the process, Rowland and NIISQ worked with Queensland Health to ensure the new site adopted the newly proposed whole-of-government design standards.

As well as a major improvement to accessibility design, the significant inclusion of a provider database has contributed to improved agency processes around onboarding and managing provider details within the website experience.

Since deployment, the Queensland Government approved the use of the design system to be rolled out state-wide as the new Single Web Experience (SWE).
