Creating impact in a contested sustainability space

Suntory Oceania, a new multi-beverage powerhouse, were looking to partner with a conservation not-for-profit to deliver the Mizuiku water sustainability program in Queensland.

Suntory Oceania required a clear, evidence-based strategy to identify a credible conservation partner and position its Mizuiku program as a distinctive, high-impact sustainability initiative within a complex water policy and stakeholder landscape.

Rowland was engaged to develop a strategic white paper to support Suntory Oceania in establishing the Australian Mizuiku partnership. Research contextualised Australia’s water challenges, particularly in South East Queensland, and a structured longlist and shortlist process defined potential partners.

A peer review of major beverage manufacturers’ sustainability programs ensured Suntory Oceania’s approach was unique in the market. The white paper also mapped key thought leaders and organisations in water conservation to support future engagement and amplification.

Rowland developed tailored key messages for shortlisted partners and conducted initial discovery interviews, ensuring the selected organisation aligned with the Mizuiku environmental and educational objectives. Rowland also prepared targeted communications for government stakeholders, elevating awareness of the initiative and supporting broader recognition of Suntory Oceania’s sustainability leadership.
